I couldn’t agree more about facebook happy birthdays. If you were my friend you’d know Facebook isn’t a good place to reach me. But I disagree about the lack of barriers devaluing media businesses. It may be devaluing existing ones, but overall I expect the media business to be much larger with tens of millions of entities versus tens of thousands today. But I have a feeling the OP agrees on this one too ;)The lack of barriers to entry in the media business is devaluing media businesses.
The lack of barriers to entry in human interaction, caused by social media, is devaluing personal communication.
Hundreds of “happy birthday” messages sent via facebook turn into more of a nuisance than a joy to receive.Or, in either circumstance, it’s making it harder to be generic and forcing new entrants to have something which stands apart from the ever-growing crowd.
Basically it’s forcing media, and communications, to get better than “just good enough.”
